Depending on day and night locations, Melbourne city has lots of great spots. Below are list of the best locations and when to shoot them. Running photo walks in Melbourne for the past 10 years has taught me and my crew where and when to best document this beautiful city. It can get confusing at times not knowing these secret spots. They have all been chosen because of their photogenic elements and modern or traditional architecture that shows off Melbourne.
1. Melbourne Gaol
Day Time Locations For Photography in Melbourne can start at the State Library and the Melbourne Gaol located just a block away. The city is full of architecture but these two places depict the old world accurately.
2. State Library of Victoria
If you are looking for back lane vibes with cafes and graffiti walls then you can’t go past Hosier Lane, De Graves Lane and some of the iconic arcades like the block arcade. If you are lucky you might even manage to capture some street portraits with permission..

5. Docklands Parking Sunset
Walking along the Yarra River at night past the Crown Casino is safe and pleasant. If you are looking for modern architecture and some elements of water then this is the perfect spot. There are 3 key areas starting with a car park park on the Northern side of Yarra River is Docklands Parking. If you go up to the roof top you can get some fabulous views looking west. Perfect place for sunset.

Once you are done with a sunset shot then its a short strawl to Docklands bridges. Web Bridge and Seafarers Bridge along with the over head highway make for some fantastic leading line shots with sexy curves. The modern architectural elements and the lighting all add for a funky perspective.

To finish off your night photography, Flinders Street Station from the opposite corner outside St. Paul’s Cathedral is a great angle. Wait for Trams and cars to build up some car trail lights.
